If you were to die today, would you be 100% sure that you would go to Heaven?

God wants you to know for sure! Here are a few things we need to know and believe.

If you were to die today, would you be 100% sure that you would go to Heaven?

God wants you to know for sure! Here are a few things we need to know and believe.

1. We must understand that we have all sinned.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

Sin is anything that displeases God (lying, stealing, disobedience, unkindness, etc.). The Bible says that we have all sinned. We all feel guilty and ashamed of things in our lives. Although we may not feel like we are wicked people, we are all still sinners, and sin separates man from God .

2. We must realize that there is a penalty for our sin.

“For the wages of sin is death…” – Romans 6:23a

When you break a law, there is a punishment or payment that is due. Because we have sinned and broken God’s law, that sin must be paid for and the payment is death. In the Bible, there are two types of death: First, there is a physical death. We do not know when we will die. All we can do is prepare for it. Second, there is a spiritual death. This is when a soul dies unforgiven and has to pay for his or her sin in a place called Hell. Hell was not created for people, but for the devil and his demons. God does not want anyone to go to Hell, so He made a way for us to escape what we rightly deserve because of our sin.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

The verse above tells us that God gave us a gift. A gift is not something you earn; it is something you receive for free. God sent His Son Jesus as a free gift to us so that we could receive Him and one day live in Heaven with Him forever. We do not receive forgiveness of our sins and a place in Heaven through baptism, church attendance, or good deeds. It only comes through receiving Jesus by faith once for all as a gift. Yes, Jesus did die for everyone, but not everyone is going to Heaven – only those who receive Him as their Savior. We either accept Jesus or reject Jesus. There is no in between.

3. We must recognize that Jesus died to pay our penalty.

“But God commendeth (showed) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” – Romans 5:8

Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus left Heaven to be born and take on a human body so He could feel what we feel – problems, poverty, and pain. He began doing miracles like healing bodies, souls, and lives. Many believed on Him, but many did not. Those who did not believe hated Him, spit on Him, beat Him, and nailed Him to a cross. Jesus came to Earth to become our substitute on the cross. Instead of having to pay for our sins in Hell ourselves, Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross and paid for our sins. Jesus loves you so much that He would have died for you even if you were the only sinner on Earth. After three days, Jesus rose again from the grave. He is making room in Heaven for those who accept Him as their Savior.

4. We must believe on Jesus and receive Him as our Savior.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:13

“For That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” – Romans 10:9-10

There are only two ways to be saved and go to Heaven: you must live a completely sinless life (which no one has except Jesus) or if you must receive Jesus as your Savior and ask Him to take the payment of your sin for you. If Jesus was willing to accept you just as you are, wouldn’t you be willing to take Him just as He is? Ask Him now to be your Savior.

Make this prayer your own:

“Dear Jesus, I know I have sinned and deserve to pay for those sins. I am sorry. Please forgive me of my sin, come into my heart, and be my Savior and God. I am trusting in you, and only you, to save me and take me to Heaven when I die. Jesus, I receive you now as my personal Savior. Help me to live for you. Amen.”

These are not magical words, but if you sincerely prayed and asked Jesus to be your Savior, then the Bible says that you can be assured that you will go to Heaven! (I John 5:12-13)
